Watch Out for They Poets

Two guys — A. M. Ludwig and then Dean Keith Simonton — have spent years pinning esteemed artists and scientists to their cork-boards and poking them with sticks trying to figure them out.  They  found out that poets are craziest: most “prone to psychopathology”. banging the gong at 87%. My own early poems, “Drinking Songs”, will only encourage them further.   And I think of some of my pets — Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, T. S. Eliot, E. E. Cummings, Alfred Tennyson, Sylvia Plath — all crackers.
